The Vaults
Raising a glass to the village's best lock-in
On the site of the old Midland Bank, in the picturesque village of Knowle, The Vaults Real Ale Bar has a wealth of treasures inside. From serving golden ales to sapphire gins, the real challenge for the barman is keeping tabs on the punters balance. The new identity draws from this banking heritage, in a playful and contemporary way helping this little gem retain its title as the village’s best lock-inn.
We looked back in time exploring the history of the old Midland Bank and surrounding village to uncover the site’s story and inject some authenticity into the identity.
Each touch-point was treated as an opportunity to play with the banking concept. Bar hooks were replaced with old keys, gift vouchers became drinking money, a typographic mural by the toilets was made from old pennies and inside images of some of the world's most notorious bank robbers can be found hiding out.

Working with Will was an incredible experience and one of the best decisions we have ever made. With a desire to update our brand whilst retaining the heart of our traditional, family run, Real Ale Bar - Will delved into the history and origins of our name and the building we reside in, utilising their aspects to create a fresh take that is both stylish and interesting. Wills's knowledge of his craft is second to none, his discovery thorough and his imagination beyond limits. This project has elevated our brand, broadened our demographic, and firmly rooted The Vaults as part of the village's history.
